Job Description:
Summary
AC Transit is currently seeking candidates for the position of
Attorney II (Temporary). This position is a 6-month assignment with
potential for extension Under direction, this position, performs a
broad range of professional legal work of a moderately complex
nature on behalf of the District. This is the intermediate,
second-level classification in the flexibly staffed Attorney
series. Performs professional legal work for a broader range of
increasingly complex legal matters and assists the General Counsel
in implementing the District's legal and risk management programs
with only occasional direction or assistance from higher-level
General Counsel staff. Responsible for providing counsel on and
appropriate responses to legal actions including preparation and/or
review of legal documents, provision of legal advocacy and legal
representation; acts as a legal resource on a variety of legal
matters. Performs work that is varied, requiring discretion and
independent judgment to ensure efficient and effective litigation
and/or resolution of legal matters.Positions in the Attorney series
are flexibly staffed in order to meet the legal service needs of
the District. Positions at each level are normally filled by
advancement from the prior level and progression to each higher
classification is subject to the following: (i) management
affirmation that the incumbent is performing the full range of
duties assigned and (ii) after gaining requisite experience and
demonstrating proficiency which meets the minimum qualifications of
the next higher-level classification.The responsibilities and work
assignments within the Attorney classification series combine
specialization and general practice, focusing on specific areas of
law while also addressing a broad range of legal matters that
include contracts, labor and employment, regulatory compliance,
litigation, real estate, and risk management to ensure legal
compliance and protect the District's interests. This is an
unrepresented at-will classification.
Representative Functions
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Possession of a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an
accredited school of law.Experience: Three (3) years of recent and
verifiable experience as a practicing attorney in civil or
government law; demonstrated trial experience, including experience
taking depositions, or an equivalent combination of training and
experience including at least two (2) years that involved
responsibilities at a level equivalent to the District's
classification of Attorney ILicense and Certification(s):
Possession of an active membership in good standing with the State
Bar of California.Special Requirements: (1) Must be able to travel
throughout the Bay Area and within subpoena distance for trials,
hearings, depositions, and arbitrations. (2) Must be able to attend
meetings outside of regular business hours.Desirable

Physical Requirements: Must maintain the physical condition
necessary to: (1) perform tasks in an office setting operating a
personal computer, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment; and
(2) possess physical mobility in order to attend off-site trials,
hearings, negotiations, and to attend external meetings and
events.

Additionally, in the event of an absence of more than 90 days from
