Adjunct Professor Jinghua Guo in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an Optical Instrumentation Junior Specialist. The specialist will work on a research project that focuses on the calculation using geometric and quantum optics models, testing a Fourier Transform Interferometer (FTI) in optical and UV photon energy regions, and potential future application for soft X-ray studies in atomic, molecular, and condensed matter physics and chemistry.Duties

  • Perform tests of the interferometer in optical and UV photon energy regions.
  • Collaborate with scientists, postdoctoral scholars, and students to develop the interferometer in a vacuum system.
  • Stay up to date and comply with current safety policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Work independently and as a member of a research team.QualificationsApplicants with any of the following areas of expertise are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Experience with developing optical instruments, lasers, and detectors.
  • Experience with optical experiments.
  • Knowledge of Python control software.The position will be based at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the incumbent will work closely with both LBNL and UCSC researchers.The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.
